5 reasons why every company should have an OGSM

OGSM stands for Objective, Goals, Strategies, Measures. It is a management effectiveness process that provides understandable goals and facilitates the cascading of company strategy. Created in Japan in the 1950s for the automotive industry, it has since been adopted by many companies around the world, including Procter & Gamble.

One of the reasons for the success of the OGSM is that the company’s strategic vision and key objectives are captured in a simple, clear and concise document that can be easily shared within any organization.

To build the OGSM roadmap, simply answer 4 key questions:

O (Objective): Where are we going? What are our objectives? (to be formulated in words)

G (Goals): What are the goals to be achieved? (to be phrased in numbers)

S (Strategies): What strategies will we use to achieve them? (to be formulated in words)

M (Measures): How do we know if we are on track, how do we measure the progress of the strategies? (to be phrased in numbers)

Transformation, change management, digitalization: these terms are now part of the daily life of companies. Those who know how to make this shift will maintain a strong position in their markets. Involving employees and embracing development opportunities is more important than ever. To do this, companies are deploying a multitude of communication actions that they hope will be enough to cascade the message and ensure that all employees are aligned with the decisions being communicated. But the reality is much more complicated. All engagement surveys show that the message is not getting through or is getting through poorly. So should we continue these top-down approaches? Definitely! At VISULT ™, we believe that communication is necessary and that the lack of clear messages can damage results. VISULT ™ is based on the OGSM and allows you to create the missing link between the vision the company can express and its execution.

Deliver a consistent roadmap in line with the company’s vision. At all levels of the company and for all managers, this is a recurring difficulty. Each time, you have to rethink your action plan and build a roadmap for your employees. Involve them and explain how they contribute to the company’s performance. VISULT ™ gives you the keys to create simple roadmaps that are understood by everyone and in line with the company’s vision.

There is nothing more disengaging for an employee to not understand where the company is heading and more importantly where, regularly, the company stands. This is where VISULT’s OGSM can provide guidance and information on progress, choices, challenges and successes. This keeps everyone on track and motivated.

All skills are rarely mastered and known by everyone. When collaboration becomes a strong element of the company’s culture, it is no longer a matter of identifying ” role models ” but of transforming the entire team into ” role models “. Numerous surveys show that collaboration and commitment are closely linked to recognition. This recognition is often difficult to measure and often top-down. Many companies rely only on managers to manage recognition. VISULT ™ and its OGSM allow each employee to highlight their achievement beyond their initial roadmap and also empower them to do so.

Building an environment based on trust and transparency allows teams to debate and innovate in an unfiltered and constructive way. It is also a key element of business success when everyone accepts their vulnerability.  VISULT ™ helps you simply achieve this cascading that you find so hard to deploy.

Everyone is involved and responsible. When the action plan is clear, it’s easier for a team to be effective.
Everyone takes responsibility for his or her own actions and for those of the team.
